Dr. James Coupe is a licensed clinical psychologist and the Clinical Director at Saint John Vianney Center. Since joining the Center in 2007, Dr. Coupe has played a central role in the clinical leadership of the program, overseeing a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, counselors, and other healthcare professionals. In this role, Dr. Coupe ensures the delivery of comprehensive, ethically grounded, and spiritually informed care to individuals in treatment.
With extensive experience in psychological assessment, Dr. Coupe specializes in personality testing and supervises both the evaluation and treatment planning processes at the Center. His clinical expertise lies in integrating psychological insight with pastoral understanding, tailoring therapeutic approaches to meet the unique needs of clergy and religious life. Dr. Coupe provides direct clinical supervision to staff psychologists and contributes to the ongoing development of treatment protocols rooted in best practices and clinical research.
In addition to his leadership and clinical responsibilities, Dr. Coupe is an experienced presenter and educator. He has led numerous workshops and training sessions for dioceses and religious communities across the country, focusing on topics such as self-care in ministry, healthy lifestyle habits, emotional intelligence, and ministerial boundaries. His work reflects a deep commitment to the psychological and spiritual well-being of those in ecclesial service, and he is known for his thoughtful, integrative approach to clinician education and clergy support.
