David Shellenberger

David Shellenberger, RN, BSN, serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Saint John Vianney Center, where he provides strategic leadership in advancing the Center’s internationally recognized mission of prevention, education, and behavioral health and addictions treatment for clergy and men and women religious. Guided by a deep commitment to service, innovation, and compassionate care, he leads the organization’s efforts to strengthen well-being, foster resilience, and deliver integrated support that addresses the physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs of those entrusted to its care.

Since joining Saint John Vianney Center in 2008, David has played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s growth, clinical excellence, and operational success. Prior to his appointment as President and CEO, he served as Chief Operating Officer, where he led strategic initiatives that enhanced organizational performance, expanded services, and strengthened the Center’s long-term sustainability. His leadership journey also includes service as Chief Nursing Officer, Infection Control and Patient Safety Officer, and Director of the Complex and Extended Stay Program, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of both clinical care and executive management.

A respected healthcare leader, David has been instrumental in developing innovative programs that promote holistic wellness and sustainable health outcomes. Among his notable contributions is the creation of the Center’s comprehensive weight management and wellness program, which combines clinical expertise, education, behavioral support, and spiritual care to help individuals achieve lasting lifestyle improvements. His commitment to education extends beyond the Center through presentations and workshops focused on stress management, health and wellness topics, leadership, and holistic well-being.

With more than 25 years of healthcare administration and leadership experience across diverse care settings, including Beaumont at Bryn Mawr and HCR ManorCare, David brings a unique blend of clinical expertise, operational acumen, and mission-driven leadership to his role. He is widely recognized for fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and compassionate service while leading organizations through growth and transformation

David earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from York College of Pennsylvania and maintains his Registered Nurse licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He serves as a board member of multiple non-profit entities, is a proud member Legatus International, and is an active member of the Catholic Speakers Organization, reflecting his passion for sharing insights on leadership, wellness, and service-focused care.
