Ronald J. Karney, PhD

Dr. Karney is a licensed psychologist who has devoted 20 of his 30+ years in clinical practice focusing upon ministry to clergy and religious, primarily of the Catholic faith. This has involved assessment of applicants into programs of formation leading to the priesthood, religious life, or the permanent diaconate as well as assessments of individuals who have experienced difficulties within ministry. Additionally, Dr. Karney has provided individual consultations, therapy, counseling both on an in-patient and out-patient basis. He has offered numerous workshops on assessments, boundaries, emotional wellness, stress and anger management, as well as other topics related to formation and ministry to several dioceses, religious communities, and religious organizations.

After completing his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Seton Hall University, he obtained both his master's degree and doctorate from the University of Memphis (APA approved).

As a licensed psychologist, Dr. Karney has been employed in a variety of positions within the state mental health system prior to serving as Clinical Director of Saint John Vianney Center for 15 years. Additionally, he has maintained an out patient practice since his licensure. In 2008 Dr. Karney returned to Saint John Vianney Center as a Clinical Consultant and in 2009 assumed the duties of Chief Psychologist and Director of Saint John Vianney Outpatient Center, the position he currently holds.
