Assessments

St. John Vianney Center is staffed by highly qualified, licensed individuals who together as a team provide a variety of clinical assessments for clergy, religious and other eligible persons (i.e. seminarians, candidates for religious life and other ordained ministers). The professional staff adapts assessments to fit the uniqueness of each specific situation and person.

Comprehensive Psycho-Diagnostic Assessment

The Comprehensive Psycho-Diagnostic Assessment is compiled over time by an interdisciplinary team composed of a psychiatrist, psychologist, pastoral counselor and a social worker. A typical assessment process requires approximately three days followed by a team meeting that includes professional staff, the individual being assessed and a representative from the respective diocese or religious community. Recommendations are made within a week of the team meeting and a comprehensive report is compiled within three weeks. It is important to note that prior to the assessment process, the person will need to undergo a physical exam to rule out any medical conditions which may be influencing the person's well being in a negative manner.

This assessment is designed to help the staff and the person being assessed to begin to gain psychological insight regarding his/her personality. At the conclusion of the assessment, recommendations are made as to whether outpatient or residential treatment, psychotherapy and/or spiritual direction might best assist the individual in modifying their personality style and resulting behaviors. Candidates for religious life or seminary gain insight to the positive qualities that they can bring to their vocations as well as possible impediments to living a diocesan or religious life.

The inability to live independently on the grounds of St. John Vianney Center or at an agreed upon off-campus location would preclude an individual from entering the assessment process.  An inpatient assessment, which proceeds over a more extended period of time, may be considered as an alternative.

Neuro-Psychological Assessment

The Neuro-Psychological Assessment is administered to individuals who are experiencing confusion that may be more organicin nature than psychological.  A Neuro-Psychological assessment will help to identify the potential cognitive deficits which result in the confusion. Once completed, strategies can be considered and recommended that may help to compensate for the identified deficits. A Neuro-Psychological assessment is also indicated when initial, comprehensive screening evidences results that the team agrees requires further investigation.

This assessment is also performed following a complete medical exam to rule out the presence of medical issues that might be causative factors related to the confusion and to study atypical outcomes based on the screening process..
